History

History

1974

Establishment of the center approved by the Osaka Prefecture Council for Health Measures.

NMCS(Neonatal Mutual Cooperative System ) in operation.

School of Midwifery opened.

1981

Perinatal Center with 70 beds (35 beds for maternal care, 17 for neonatal care, and 18 for infant care), and Osaka Maternal & Child Health Information Center opened.

1982

Examination Laboratory for Newborn Screening in Osaka prefecture established in our facility.

1983

Laboratory of clinical research established.

1984

Perinatal Center expanded to 204 beds in practice.

1986

Honored by a visit from the Emperor Showa.

1987

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery established.

OGCS(Obstetrics and Gynecology Cooperative System ) in operation.

1990

Honored by a visit from the reigning Emperor and Empress.

1991

Children's Hospital and Research Institute opened.

The 10th anniversary ceremony held.

The center received certification as a WHO Collaborating Centre (first in Japan for maternal and child health).

1992

Japanese Research Structure approved (Research Institute).

1994

Complete inauguration of Osaka Medical Center with total of 363 beds (all wards in full operation).

1997

School of Midwifery closed.

1999

"General Perinatal Maternal and Child Medical Center in Osaka Prefecture" designated.

2000

Opening of the Family House, an accommodation for families of children with chronic diseases.

2001

The 20th Anniversary symposium, entitled "Nurture", held at Toga Civic Hall.

2002

Patient's Charter (These are your rights) was issued.

ESCO project financed by private business funds adapted to the center.

2003

Honored by a visit by Crown Prince and Crown Princess.

2004

Approved by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care (General Hospital)

2006

Osaka Prefectual Hospital Organization established and the center has become “Osaka Prefectual Hospital Organization, Osaka Medical Center and Research Institute for Maternal and Child Health”.
The 25th Anniversary symposium, entitled “Towards the bright future of mothers and children ”, held at Izumi City Plaza.

2007

Approved as a national clinical trial center.

2008

Completion of earthquake retrofit.

2009

Establishment of Liniac ward.

2010

Starting of semi-open system in Department of Obstetrics.

2011

The 30th Anniversary Ceremony, entitled “Towards the future of mothers and children walking with the community”, held at Izumi City Plaza.

2013 Designated as government-designated core hospital for pediatric cancer by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
2014

Opening of the New Family House.

Establishment of New Operating ward.

Approved by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care(Hospital Type 2).

2017 Renamed to Osaka Women's and Children's Hospital.
