Department of Neurosurgery
The department of neurosurgery was established in 1991. We deal with pediatric neurosurgical disorders from premature baby to an age of schoolboy and adolescence.
- Diseases we frequently treat are as follows,
- Various types of spina bifida
- Congenital and acquired hydrocephalus
- Brain and spinal tumor, skull tumor
- All types of craniosynostosis
- Arachnoid and other intracranial cyst
- Spinal syrinx
- Stenosis of the craniocervical junction
- Infection of the central nervous system and shunt tube
- Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
- Moyamoya disease
- Botox and intrathecal Baclofen treatment for the spasticity
- VNS (vagal nerve stimulation therapy) for intractable epilepsy
- Head and Spinal Trauma
- Neuroendoscope is used for less-invasive surgery.
For those patients, around 200 neurosurgeries are done each year.
In our department, two to three certified Neurosurgeons of Japan Neurosurgical Society are working as a full-time consultant. They are also certified neurosurgeons of Japanese Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Our department is a member hospital of the Department of Neurosurgery, Osaka University Medical School and training facility of Japan Neurosurgical Society.
