Department of Neurosurgery

The department of neurosurgery was established in 1991. We deal with pediatric neurosurgical disorders from premature baby to an age of schoolboy and adolescence. 

  • Diseases we frequently treat are as follows,
  • Various types of spina bifida
  • Congenital and acquired hydrocephalus
  • Brain and spinal tumor, skull tumor
  • All types of craniosynostosis
  • Arachnoid and other intracranial cyst
  • Spinal syrinx
  • Stenosis of the craniocervical junction
  • Infection of the central nervous system and shunt tube
  • Arteriovenous malformation (AVM)
  • Moyamoya disease
  • Botox and intrathecal Baclofen treatment for the spasticity
  • VNS (vagal nerve stimulation therapy) for intractable epilepsy
  • Head and Spinal Trauma
  • Neuroendoscope is used for less-invasive surgery. 

For those patients, around 200 neurosurgeries are done each year.
      
In our department, two to three certified Neurosurgeons of Japan Neurosurgical Society are working as a full-time consultant. They are also certified neurosurgeons of Japanese Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery. 
Our department is a member hospital of the Department of Neurosurgery, Osaka University Medical School and training facility of Japan Neurosurgical Society.
